Poor or no preparation for surgery is one of the major factors that account for poor surgical outcomes. Teaching patient relaxation so that patient can understand that he or she is part of the surgery team and his job is to not analyze BUT to take a vacation while he is taking care of by the surgeon, the anesthesiologist, and ancillary staff. -B.
